Shower Regrouting & Resealing

We regrout worn shower tile joints and replace deteriorated silicone at corners and changes of plane. After checking the retained tiles and joints, we quote regrouting, silicone resealing or both. Recurring leaks or dampness outside the shower need assessment before surface repairs are selected.

We renew grout between tiles and use flexible silicone at corners and changes of plane. Preparing each joint for the right material gives the repair a neat finish and allows movement where it is needed.
- Assessment of worn, missing or deteriorated grout in the agreed area.
- Removal of affected material and preparation of the joints.
- Replacement grout and flexible seals appropriate to the joint location.
- Finishing, cleaning and curing guidance for the renewed joints.
Grout cleaning deals with surface dirt; regrouting removes failed material and renews the agreed joints. The written quote defines which grout lines and silicone junctions are included.
Recurring shower leaks and surface repair suitability
Compare the roles of surface joints and concealed waterproofing in our surface repair suitability guide.
We check tiles, grout and seals alongside recurring cracks or dampness outside the shower. If water is coming from beneath the tiled surface, we explain the connected leak repair or membrane work rather than repeating a surface reseal.
If the findings suggest a concealed leak, we explain why further investigation may be needed. Read shower leak assessment and repair for that process. Where the membrane needs renewal, see bathroom waterproofing. Surface joint repairs do not renew a failed concealed membrane.
Removing failed grout and replacing shower silicone
The repair sequence includes removing affected grout or sealant, preparing the joint surfaces and installing the selected replacement materials. We confirm the joint locations and extent of work first. Working around tiles, edges and fixtures requires care; the condition of existing finishes affects what can be retained.
Grout colour, joint dimensions and the remaining material affect the appearance of a partial repair. If you are considering epoxy grout, we confirm compatibility with the tile finish, joints and intended use, plus cleaning and care requirements. Epoxy is not automatically suitable for every joint, a replacement for flexible silicone, or a remedy for base movement and failed waterproofing. We agree the material and expected match in the quote. Damaged tiles can be assessed through our tile repair and replacement service.

Regrouting costs, joint condition and shower downtime
The amount of material to remove, joint depth and width, access around screens and fixtures, and the condition of adjacent tiles influence the itemised regrouting and resealing quote. A limited reseal and a larger regrouting job involve different preparation and material quantities. We set out which joints are included so you can compare the proposed work clearly.
Separate the grout lines and flexible seals in the quote
- Grout: the wall or floor joints to remove, prepare and renew.
- Silicone: the agreed corners, changes of plane and screen junctions.
- Preparation and curing: access around fixtures and when the shower can return to use.
We confirm shower downtime for joint preparation and curing against the installed grout and sealant instructions, site conditions and moisture.
Caring for grout and seals after renewal
Sealant that feels dry may still need more time before water exposure. Follow the installed product and job-specific handover instructions; our return-to-use guidance separates the relevant stages without setting a universal waiting period.
Once the shower is released for use, follow the cleaning instructions for the installed grout and sealant. Avoid abrasive tools that can damage the joints.
If cracks recur, seals separate or dampness appears beyond the shower, arrange a reassessment instead of repeatedly covering the symptoms. See the central tiling and joint-care FAQs, leak repair FAQs and handover FAQs for general guidance.
