Bathroom Waterproofing

We waterproof bathrooms and ensuites, renew ageing membranes and prepare wet areas for a new tiled finish. Our team handles the base, drains, corners and shower junctions, bringing membrane installation and tiling into one planned sequence.

Bathroom and ensuite membrane installation

We install and renew the waterproofing layer beneath bathroom and ensuite tiles. Floors, wet-area walls, corners and fixture penetrations are considered together, with the room layout and selected system determining the treated area. For a stripped room, we assess the exposed base; for an occupied bathroom, we plan access and removal around the fittings that remain. Existing dampness needs a water-source assessment before membrane work is chosen.

  • Shower floors, bathroom floors and wall junctions.
  • Corners, thresholds, wastes and fixture penetrations.
  • Tile removal and substrate preparation within the agreed scope.
  • Membrane installation, required curing and readiness checks.
  • Coordinated tile, grout and flexible-joint finishing.

Bathroom wall preparation and coating: site record

These photographs record coating work on shower walls, with the existing floor protected. The close-up shows application at the wall base.

The photographs show wall coating stages; your own scope separately identifies retained surfaces and which parts of the bathroom need renewal.

Room size alone does not set the price. Tile removal, exposed lining, access around retained fittings and the junctions to be rebuilt determine the preparation required. We inspect and measure on site, then confirm the materials, inclusions and timing in writing.

Confirm the boundaries and handover

  • Retained and removed finishes, plus any required base repairs.
  • Membrane system, junction details and agreed checks.
  • Curing, tiling responsibility and return-to-use guidance.

Shower leak assessment and repair options

Grout fills tile joints, silicone accommodates movement at suitable junctions, and the membrane is a separate concealed layer. Renewing visible joints cannot replace a failed membrane. Our shower repair options guide explains when surface work may be suitable and when removal needs consideration.

A damp wall beside the shower, loose tiles or staining below the bathroom can point to different problems. Failed flexible joints, drainage issues and damage beneath the tiles need different repairs. We inspect the accessible shower surfaces and adjoining areas before identifying the work required; a visible stain alone does not establish that the membrane has failed.

If tiles need removing, we define the opening, base repairs and reinstatement together. The North Terrace shower leak renovation record shows selected wall-board, tiling and finishing stages from May 2026.

For the assessment steps and information to share, see shower leak repair in Adelaide. The shower regrouting and resealing service explains the difference between rigid grout lines and flexible joints.

For damage beyond a single tile, we check the surrounding base before arranging tile repairs and replacement. Matching stock and the condition exposed during removal affect the local repair and finished tile match.

Preparing the bathroom for membrane installation

A new membrane needs a sound, prepared base. We assess loose bedding, damaged lining, surface contamination and existing finishes before agreeing preparation or removal. Drainage, corners, wall-floor junctions, thresholds and penetrations are detailed for the selected system; tile thickness and finished heights are checked before installation.

We plan preparation, membrane application, curing and readiness checks for the selected system and site conditions. Before tiling or another trade takes over, we confirm who checks readiness, which areas can proceed and any remaining restrictions. Tell us about later fittings so we can coordinate their penetrations and fixing details.

Changing the shower layout or rebuilding the base may involve a broader scope. Our bathroom renovation waterproofing service covers the coordination of strip-out, preparation and retiling within the agreed work.

Bathroom access, timing and handover

A membrane ready for tiling is not a finished shower ready for water. Adhesive, grout and silicone also have their own waiting stages. Use our drying, curing and return-to-use guide to clarify the project milestones, then confirm the installed materials and handover instructions for your room.

The amount of removal, substrate condition, selected materials and access to the room influence the schedule. We agree the affected area's downtime before work starts. If removal reveals additional damage, the proposed work, price and timing are confirmed with you before it proceeds.

At handover, we explain care for the installed membrane, tile, grout and seals and when the area can return to use. For questions about over-tiling, curing or the difference between a local joint repair and membrane renewal, see the waterproofing and leak repair FAQs and quotes and handover FAQs.

Under-tile membranes, primers and shower junctions

We match the under-tile membrane to the bathroom base and tiled finish. A water-based liquid membrane can be suitable where its product instructions cover the substrate and wet-area use. We coordinate the compatible primer, corner and pipe detailing, bond-breaking method and drain connection as one system. Specified film thickness and curing conditions guide the work; counting coats alone does not establish a complete membrane.
