Shower Leak Repair

A leaking shower should not keep disrupting your home. We trace the water source and repair the affected grout, seals, tiles or membrane. You get a repair plan for the problem we find and a written quote before work begins.

Shower leak assessment and repair scope

A leaking shower may leave water beside the screen, damp skirting or a stain below. We assess the source before choosing between joint repairs, tile removal and membrane renewal. Our May 2026 North Terrace shower renovation records selected wall-board, tiling and finishing stages of one Ellis project.

  • Inspection of accessible tiles, grout, flexible joints and shower edges.
  • Local regrouting or resealing where the condition supports that repair.
  • Tile removal and base preparation where access beneath the finish is needed.
  • Membrane renewal and coordinated tile reinstatement within the agreed scope.

Damp walls beside a shower: assessing the leak source

24-hour shower leak enquiries

For spreading dampness or water appearing downstairs, keep the shower out of use and call. We arrange assessment and, where suitable, temporary protection; membrane repairs and return-to-use timing are confirmed separately.

Tell us whether dampness appears during shower use, afterwards, while the shower is unused, or only after rain. If shower use and rainfall happened close together, note the sequence rather than assuming one caused the leak. We compare the timing and affected screen, base or adjoining room with accessible joints, waste junctions and repair history; a mark alone does not identify the source.

If rain-related dampness appears while the shower is unused, note any nearby exterior wall, balcony or ceiling affected. Supply or waste plumbing may need separate investigation from the shower surfaces. Concealed areas may require opening before the repair is agreed; the leak investigation and membrane guide explains the assessment. Plumbing repairs are a separate trade scope.

Surface repair or tile removal and membrane replacement

Repair without tile removal may suit worn surface joints on a sound base. Compare the roles and limits in our grout, silicone and membrane repair guide.

  • Surface joints: worn grout or split silicone on sound adjoining tiles may suit local joint renewal after the water source is assessed.
  • Concealed waterproofing: evidence of damage beneath the finish may require opening the area, checking the base and agreeing membrane renewal and tile reinstatement.
  • Plumbing or waste connections: a suspected supply or waste leak needs separate plumbing investigation or repair before the remaining waterproofing and tile scope is confirmed.

When tiles need removing, our tile repair and replacement service helps plan matching tiles, base repairs and the finish around the opened area.

For worn grout or silicone on sound adjoining tiles, see shower regrouting and resealing. For grout across other walls or floors, see tile regrouting. Joint renewal does not repair a failed concealed membrane; membrane work needs tile removal, substrate repairs and a compatible system defined in the written scope.

We agree the removal and reinstatement boundaries before work. Preparation, waterproofing, curing and the agreed readiness checks come before the tiled finish. Where the damage or intended changes extend across the room, see bathroom waterproofing or renovation waterproofing.

Shower repair costs, access and downtime

The size of the affected area is only one factor. Access beneath the finish, the condition of the base, the extent of moisture damage and matching replacement tiles can change the work required. The written quote identifies removal, preparation, materials, finishing and any further investigation so you can see what the repair covers.

A local joint repair and a membrane renewal follow different schedules. Drying conditions, material curing and any agreed checks affect when the shower can be used again. We confirm the expected downtime for your scope; if removal exposes additional damage, changes to work, price and timing are discussed before that extra work proceeds.

Drying, curing and returning the shower to use

Keep the shower out of use for the period confirmed for the installed materials. At handover, we explain care for the grout, seals and tiles, including cleaning guidance relevant to the finish. Do not judge readiness only by how dry the surface looks.

Let us know if dampness returns, spreads or appears elsewhere. A surface repair should not be repeatedly used to cover an unresolved concealed leak. For general questions about leak repairs and curing, read the waterproofing and leak repair FAQs and quotes and handover FAQs.
