Preparation and coordination

Tile Preparation and Installation Planning

A tile finish depends on the base, material supply and the order of connected work. Use this guide to prepare for an agreed installation scope, then choose your surface from our tiling services.

Tile removal and substrate preparation

We check the existing finish, base, dimensions, access and adjoining surfaces before agreeing the installation. Tile removal may expose loose adhesive, damaged lining or a base that needs further preparation. The scope identifies removal, levelling or screeding and the accessible repair boundary. Hidden findings are discussed before additional work proceeds. For a laundry, entry or another small tiled space, see our other-area tiling service.

Moisture, movement and unstable material need assessment before they are covered. Where waterproofing is required, preparation and membrane stages are coordinated with the tiling handover. A new tile finish alone does not renew the concealed membrane.

Tile supply and layout decisions

We agree with you who supplies the tiles, the selected format and finish, and when materials will be available. Product dimensions, thickness, edges and intended use guide the cuts, transitions and preparation. You can contact us before choosing tiles; product details can follow the first enquiry.

Set-out brings adjoining surfaces together. We agree visible cuts, corners, trim positions and movement junctions with the selected tile. Check material responsibility, waste handling and protection of retained finishes in the written quote.

Installation sequence and connected trades

Removal and base preparation come before the agreed membrane or installation stages. Plumbing, electrical, cabinetry or structural changes need their own confirmed responsibilities and access. Install tiles only when the prepared base and any required membrane are ready for the next stage.

Grout and flexible junctions have different roles. Return to use follows the selected materials and site conditions rather than one universal number of hours. Handover explains care, cleaning and any access restrictions. Read the drying and curing guide for the distinct waiting stages.
